4.5.7. Samba/iX

4.5.7.1. Quick setup guide for Samba/iX

MB2

See http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/samba/ and then follow the link at the bottom to http://docs.hp.com/en/32650-90906/ch07.html.

The short howto is:

1) Copy the sample config files in /SAMBA/CURRENT/lib to their corresponding real filenames.

2) Edit /SAMBA/CURRENT/lib/smb.conf to add any additional shares.

3) Stream the JSMB job.

Any generic Samba documentation will tell you what you need to know about adding shares to smb.conf.

4.5.7.2. How to get Samba/iX on your 3000

LA

as far as I recall, the SMBMXG3 patch brings a complete Samba 2.2.8a package for MPE/iX (which installs into a separate group in the SAMBA account, so that it does not wipe out the old version).

 ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/mpe-ix_patches/

The patch brings an HFSFILES component, which essentially is a compressed .tar archive that gets unpacked by the installation job (as far as I recall). The patch .txt on the ITRC web site (or ftp site, which I prefer for faster and easier access) does have some instructions on manual steps to "migrate" the config files to the new directory.

There is also a ReadMe file, if I recall correctly.

4.5.7.3. Joining your HP3000 to a Windows NT Domain

MB2

At the time I tested joining domains prior to releasing 2.2.8a, it was against an NT4 domain.

My test notes say:

1) Create yourself a domain computer account. You need to do this via standard Windows processes, not with Samba. Within HP I can use a magic web site to create computer accounts.

2) Modify your Samba's smb.conf to include:

security = domain

encrypt passwords = yes

password server = PDC or BDC name

3) Join your Samba server to the domain:

/SAMBA/CURRENT/bin/smbpasswd -j domainname

I just retested all of this on a different MPE machine and it still works for NT4 domains.
