Table 2: Program Capabilities
Cap. |
Name |
Default? |
What it means for a program to have (or not have) this capability |
---|---|---|---|
IA | Interactive Access | Yes | Programs with IA capability can be executed interactively. That is, if you log on interactively (with a "HELLO" command), you can execute programs that have IA capability. If the program does not have IA capability, then it cannot be executed from a session. |
BA | Batch Access | Yes | Programs with BA capability can be executed by batch jobs. If a program does not have BA capability, then it cannot be executed by a job (one that logged on via a "JOB" statement"). |
DS | Data Segment | No | Programs with DS capability can use intrinsics to allocate extra memory in the form of extra data segments. |
PH | Process Handling | No | Programs with PH capability can use intrinsics to run other programs, thus creating additional processes. |
MR | Multiple RIN | No | Programs with Multiple RIN capability can hold more than one Resource Identification Number. This creates the potential for "deadly embraces," which can require that the system be rebooted. |
PM | Privileged Mode | No | Programs with Privileged Mode capability can access system internals. PM capability is required to use the Architected Interfaces. |
