Table 1: Types of Access Recognized by MPE/iX
Type of Access | Applies to: | Explanation | |
---|---|---|---|
Read | R | Files | A user with READ access to a file can examine the data that's in that file. He can display it on a screen, print it, or run a program that reads it. |
Write | W | Files | A user with WRITE access to a file can change or delete the data that's in the file. He can replace records, delete them, add to them, or change them. |
Append | A | Files | A user with APPEND access to a file can add data to the end of the file, but cannot delete or change the data that's already there. |
Lock | L | Files | A user with LOCK access to a file can run a program that uses the MPE FLOCK and FUNLOCK intrinsics to coordinate file access. |
Execute | X | Files | A user with EXECUTE access to a file that contains a program can execute that program on the HP 3000. Execute access also applies to batch jobs and UDCs. |
Save | S | Groups | A user with SAVE access to a group has the ability to create files in that group. |
