This platform would provide a small but useable (and quick) hardware platform, and be bundled with all HP's development software (languages/compilers), so that parties interested in developing applications for (or porting applications to) the HP3000 could do so easily and inexpensively. After HP's announcement of this platform, most of the third party software vendors providing packages for the HP3000 also volunteered to provide their software to developers on these platforms at little or no cost. --[[ChrisBartram]] There (was) an 918DX FAQ on HP's Jazz Server. Here's the configuration for the MPE 918/DX Developers Platform: * 918/LX with 64 MB memory, 4 GB low-profile fixed disk drive, 4 GB DDS DAT drive, integrated 802.3 LAN single-ended SCSI 2, 600VA UPS, system console, pre-loaded with: MPE/iX OS, POSIX Developers Kit, ARPA Services, documentation on CD. * 8 user license, but we will be offering a 4 user license and we have priced this 918 at what the 4 user license price will be. This should help get lower s/w pricing from other vendors. * HP developers software bundle: * IMAGE/SQL * ALLBASE/SQL * C * COBOL * FORTRAN * BASIC * PASCAL * XDB - Symbolic debugger * GLANCE * AIFs * RPG * Transact * A 52% discount on support.(*This may change) * A certificate to present other vendors authenticating your membership in the MPE Developers Program and your purchase or lease of a 918/DX. --[[JeffVance]] ---++++ How much does it cost? There (was) an 918DX FAQ on HP's Jazz Server. The 918DX can be fully purchased, leased or rented: Purchase: a 918DX as described in Answer 1 costs $7,077 with full software licenses. Lease: if the total h/w and s/w NET price is equal or greater than $20,000 you can lease the 918DX. The net price is the price you pay for the system and includes support and additional hardware. The cost is approximately $630/month for a three year lease. A two year lease is also available. If the total h/w and s/w net price is less than $20,000 you must either purchase or rent the 918DX. The above price is computed using $20,000 as the base price. Channel Rent: a 918DX can be rented for a one year or 6 month period. The price for a one year agreement is approximately $375 per month. The price for a 6 month agreement is approximately $450 per month. Both arrangements can be extended on a month-to-month basis at the stated monthly rate. Note: the rental prices are based on the 918DX list price (hardware only), not on the discounted SPP price. The above prices are computed using $15,000 as the base price. All prices are in U.S. dollars and subject to credit approval. Prices outside of the U.S. may vary. These prices do not include the SPP membership fee. Please call (888)999-HPTF for more information on leasing and renting a 918DX. ---++++ How can I order a 918DX? There (was) an 918DX FAQ on HP's Jazz Server. You need to be a member of the HP Software Providers Program (SPP, formerly known as the PA-RISC Developers Program). The current membership cost is $600 annually. This program is designed to help MPE applications and tools developers succeed. Before you join the SPP you need to contact Steve Little, CSY Marketing, and provide him a brief description of what kind of MPE development you do or are planning. It is really pretty simple and we intend to keep it informal. Steve's e-mail address is: steven_little@hp.com. Below are some SPP URLs: http://www.hp.com/wsg/programs/partnership/partsoft.html http://www.hp.com/wsg/programs/partnership/software/pasupp3.html HP expects to take orders for the 918DX starting January 1998. The 918DX product number is A4911A. ---++++ What packages are available/come with the 918DX? There (was) an 918DX FAQ on HP's Jazz Server. *HP Languages*: C/iX, Pascal/iX, Fortran 77/iX, COBOL II/iX, Business Basic/iX, Transact/iX, RPG/iX *HP s/w*: Image/SQL, Allbase/SQL, Glance/iX, AIFs, XDB *3rd party s/w*:
