Almost all components in an HP3000 are interchangeable with corresponding HP9000 system components, except for the main system (Core I/O) board. The Core I/O boards have logic on them to prevent the booting of the "other" operating system. Also, there are some enhanced I/O capabilities on HP3000s which are not present on HP9000 systems.
